Building Skills for Law School & Practice

Lawyers must be proficient at many complex skills in order to be effective and successful in their careers. Law school introduces to many of the skills you will need to be successful, including time management, deep reading, writing, thinking on your feet, research, and critical thinking to name just a few. Law school is your opportunity to not only hone these skills, but also develop the work ethic necessary to keep your skills sharp throughout your career. Not only will this help you be the best lawyer you can be, but it will also help you be a top notch law student!

That is the purpose of the Skills Library. Nobody comes into law school a master at all the skills that make a solid attorney. Instead, it is up to you to recognize the skills you need to develop and use this library as a tool to help you strengthen those skills. This introduction will launch you on your way, but it is up to you to continue to apply these skills to achieve mastery. Completing one skill building module does not equate to skill mastery! Truly making a difference in your proficiency requires constant effort and attention on your part to build a given skill. In this way, building skills is a lot like building muscle. It certainly can be challenging, but the results are always rewarding!
