So You Want to Research People? IRB Regulations, Policies, and Procedures

Chair, Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects Research, St. Mary’s University

Description: The St. Mary’s IRB must review and approve all research with human subjects.  If faculty and students understand the information needed by the IRB to insure compliance with federal regulations, they can write more effective research proposals. This workshop will review fundamental decisions the IRB must make, discuss how to minimize necessary risks in research with human subjects, and apply these principles to case studies of human subjects research.

Department of Education- Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Grant Information Session

DHSI Program Director Rick Gaona 

Description: The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program provides grants to assist HSIs to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students. IACUC

Description: This workshop will cover the important role of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for research involving vertebrate animals. The IACUC is appointed by the President and this committee reviews and approves all research protocols that involve the use of animals in research. The IACUC is charged with ongoing monitoring of animal research for compliance with all federal regulations. The IACUC membership consists of 2 faculty from the School of Science, Engineering and Technology; 1 faculty member from school with background on the subject; a consulting veterinarian; and a public member from the research community.
