Over the past months, the COVID-19 crisis has created an environment of uncertainty across our community, our city, and our world. However, out of that uncertainty, you have come into the “new classroom” with innovative ideas, faculty resolve, and a creative spirit determined to teach our students well.  In a spirit of adaptation and rooted relevance — as a faculty community, we must continue to discern, plan and prepare for educating our students well in the fall and beyond, welcoming them to campus when we can and meeting them where they are whenever necessary.  

Endeavoring to draw from St. Mary’s innovation, creativity, and stories, a webinar conversation was held Wednesday, May 20. The Office of the Provost moderated the conversation and have invited our faculty colleagues listed below to share their stories and engage the questions and insights you bring to the dialogue. This conversation will focus on the underlying “Whys” and “Hows” of teaching and learning within and beyond the COVID-19 crisis. Considering the many uncertainties related to the current pandemic and our ongoing commitment to grow and develop as a place of teaching and learning, we are looking to identify and cultivate teaching models that encourage a community spirit, enable high flexibility, and ensure academic excellence. And we need your input!

Also available to engage in the conversation will be members of the Academic Technology Services team — Jeff Schomburg, Executive Director for Academic Technology Services, and Felicia Cruz, Director of Online Learning and Curriculum Innovation.

Any course that provides simultaneous, live instruction to students in-person (classroom-based) and
online (remote location). Courses can be taught both face-to-face and online by the same instructor at the same time, providing students with the opportunity to choose in-person attendance or virtual attendance. In addition, HyFlex courses usually provide an option to complete the course through asynchronous means, thus striving to provide equivalent learning activities in all participation modes.
