Our Mission
About ATS
Academic Technology Services (ATS), a division of Information Services, provides faculty, students, and staff with training and professional development, instructional design, learning space design, instructional technologies, online learning, and creative and media services throughout St. Mary’s teaching and learning environment. St. Mary’s University. The Catholic and Marianist University.
We are located in Charles L. Cotrell Learning Commons. The Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) Lab is a work area which faculty can use to incorporate technology into the classroom. The latest hardware and software are available as well as assistance from our highly skilled support team.
A key to instructional technology is training, we provide a wide variety of technology workshops each semester. Available to faculty, staff, and students, these workshops provide both basic and advanced software skills to the end user. We also welcome large group and one-to-one training sessions. If your department is interested in a private training session, please email Angel Tazzer, Ph.D. to schedule the event.
ATS connects faculty and students to support for Canvas, our Web-based learning management software (LMS). Our Canvas team is responsible for the technical support, training, maintenance, and upkeep for the hardware/software for Canvas.
Evaluating and recommending emerging technologies is one of the responsibilities of ATS. Your assistance is solicited in this area. Please contact Executive Director Jeff Schomburg with suggestions for pedagogical uses of new software and hardware. We encourage you to visit our facilities and our ATS staff to let us know your needs and how we can support you.

Our Vision
We see the effect of our vision represented in the Power of E Cubed. Like all great ideas, the Power of E Cubed came to life on a slightly used napkin one hot San Antonio day. The lunch-meeting brainstorm in 2002 was an attempt to explain, in a clear and meaningful way, the visionary impact of Academic Technology Services. After the meeting, it became apparent we had not only captured the vision of ATS, but also its effect—Educate, Empower, and Engage.
Educate
At ATS, we are about “Education.” It’s our mission to transfer to you, the St. Mary’s community, the knowledge, and skills in instructional technology our professional team has acquired over the years. It’s an old adage that quality training must involve “Tell, Show, and Do.” That’s how we train. That’s how we educate.
Empower
We believe the transfer of skills you gain by working with our ATS team empowers you to creatively apply those skills to your own teachings. We want to arm you with the “know-how” to create and enhance your teaching wherever technology can offer a solution. That’s how we empower.
Engage
We’d like nothing better than to see you engage the skills learned at ATS to create educational solutions through technology. Can technology improve your students’ learning opportunities? Then let’s put those skills to use. And every step of the way, we’ll be there to help. That’s how we engage.
