Professional Development Short Courses Information
The professional development short courses are designed to offer a plethora of different topics that leaves learners with a newfound understanding of the skills and software. Similar to our regular technology workshops offered, our aim is to provide basic and advanced software skills to learners. The short courses are offered online through the Canvas application, and the duration of completion is two weeks.

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing and typesetting software application. Learn how to make digital magazines and newsletters with ease in Adobe InDesign.
Apr. 17 – 28, 2023
Piktochart is an online tool for creating high-quality infographics, visually-enhanced presentation slides, insightful reports, eye-catching flyers and posters, and much more for both print and online audiences.Learn how to make an eye-catching syllabus by adding visual elements to enhance user interaction.

4. You are now enrolled in the short course. To view the short course in Canvas, click on the Dashboard
5. The course will launch 2-days before the stated start date
Professional Development Short Courses Spring 2023
Week 1
In the firse week of your short course you will meet your insturctor and your classmates. Your instuctor will go through and teach you the needed skills to master each course topic.
Week 2
Now that you have acquired the knowledge it is now time to put it into practice. In week 2 you will be able to demonstrate what you learned and apply it to your own projects.

Excel: Functions, Formulas, and Reporting
Start Date: Monday, March 20, 2023
End Date: Friday, March 31, 2023
In this short course, you will learn how to master functions and formulas that will help you when reporting data.
Microsoft Excel is the industry’s premier spreadsheet software. It features calculation and computation capabilities, graphing tools, pivot tables, and a macro programming language. We are proud to partner with Microsoft to bring this software to our community.
St. Mary’s University is an official Microsoft 365 campus. Every faculty, student, and staff member can install Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and other available applications, depending on your operating system, onto their personal devices at no cost. All users will have an active license to use Microsoft Office products while they are actively enrolled or employed at St. Mary’s. Once a user graduates or departs the University, the download license and access to the online versions will expire.

Adobe InDesign Magazines & Newsletters

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing and typesetting software application. It allows you to design and publish documents across a full spectrum of digital and print media, including but not limited to posters, flyers, presentations, and e-books.
In this short course, you will learn how to create amazing magazines and newsletters.

To use the creative cloud software on our computers, you need to create an Adobe ID, preferably with your St. Mary’s Email. It is free to create your account and after that, you will be able to use the Creative Cloud on any of our computers in. the Media center that have the software installed.

Creating a Visual Syllabus with Piktochart
Start Date: Monday, April 17, 2023
End Date: Friday, April 28, 2023
In this short course you will learn how to create a syllabus and add visual elements to enhance user interaction.
Piktochart is an online tool for creating high-quality infographics, visually-enhanced presentation slides, insightful reports, eye-catching flyers and posters, and much more for both print and online audiences. It allows instructors and students to easily assemble charts, graphs, text, and graphics to present information using a drag-and-drop interface.
Instructors and students can create engaging visuals starting from scratch or using the many available templates that can be filled with their own information. Users can use Piktochart’s bank of icons, images, fonts, charts, world maps, and other design tools to tell a story or communicate information in visually appealing ways.
